I have no more friends, Selina. All I have is the Green.

Poison Ivy is a supporting antagonist in Injustice 2.

She is a plant controlling super-villainess who frequently battles with the Dark Knight, Batman. She is also a longtime friend of Harley Quinn. Despite her plant-based powers, she is a Gadget User. Poison Ivy appears as a playable character in Injustice 2 (2017).

About Poison Ivy[]

Pamela Isley was born with an unusual skin condition: an aversion to sunlight. Although a protective lotion was prescribed, her abusive father would go to extreme lengths to keep her indoors. One day, her mother allowed her to play outside. Enraged by his wife’s behavior, he punched her in the face, giving her a black eye, to which the latter showed little to no reaction and simply went outside and began to garden. Seeing Isley there, she explained that she enjoyed gardening because she feels that flowers listen to her, and if she was quiet enough, they would respond. When Isley inquired about her mother’s black eye, she simply brushed it off. Unfortunately, her father’s violent behavior continued. Every time he struck his wife, he would simply buy her forgiveness with flowers, expanding their garden each time this happened. This led Isley to the conclusion that flowers could manipulate people. But when she saw her father murder his wife in cold blood, fed up with the latter’s disobedience, she learned about how cruel humans could be. She then witnessed her father bury his wife in the garden, her flesh decaying and feeding the very flora that she planted. As a result, Isley’s father was tried and found guilty of domestic violence and sentenced to life in prison. Isley was sent to live with another relative. In college, she dated budding eco-terrorist Bella Garten, and created designer drugs and doling out pheromone pills to study their effects. When the college staff learned of her activities, she was expelled and sent to prison to await a criminal indictment. However, she had managed to use her pills to manipulate the college’s dean into dropping her charges and allowing her to graduate summa cum laude. After graduating, she visited her father in prison. The latter sullenly sat in silence, waiting patiently for her to make the first move. After a time, she kissed him on the lips, resulting in him dying from an untraceable toxin. She then managed to get a job at Wayne Enterprises. She managed to aid in completing a project that allows flora to grow at an advanced rate. However, this project was stolen by the supervillain known as The Riddler and spread throughout Gotham City, New Jersey, transforming it into a literal urban jungle, though Batman managed to defeat Riddler and secure Isley’s project. When Isley pitched an idea involving using pheromones to modify their targets to the company’s benefit, to which Bruce Wayne refused her offer and fired her on the spot, even going as far as to warn her that as he owned any research she had conducted, she would not be able to pitch her idea elsewhere. Angered by Bruce’s behavior, she rushed past security to steal a formula that she alone knew how to make. In the process, she was doused with her own chemicals, granting her the ability to control plantlife, and make her immune to poisons or viruses. She would later become a formidable foe of Batman. She was also a member of the Birds of Prey.

Biography[]

Dr. Pamela Isley was once an innovative but radical botanical biochemist with a singular goal: to make the world safe for plant life to flourish. She joins the Society to further their common interest in bringing mankind to its knees, but at heart, Ivy’s desire is to ensure that in any new world order, flora dominates fauna.

Injustice 2[]

Poison Ivy ambushes and captures Black Canary, Green Arrow, and Harley Quinn when they try to intercept the shipment of fear gas in Slaughter Swamp. Harley is at first relieved to see her, hoping that she will help them, but Ivy later admits that she is part of the Society, much to Harley's disappointment and sadness. She then explains that Batman had promised to preserve the Green, but all Batman had done was build more cities over the Green, making Batman no different than Superman in her eyes. While she was explaining her motives, however, Harley had been cutting the vines holding her, and after Ivy finishes her statement, she successfully escapes, followed by Canary and Arrow. Harley tries one last time to convince her to turn on the Society and join them; she coldly refuses the request, and the two fight, with Harley emerging as the victor.

She later ambushes Cyborg, Catwoman, and Harley Quinn at Arkham Asylum and infects Harley with her iconic pink pheromones, causing her to attack either Cyborg or Catwoman (depending on the player's choice), while the other will battle Poison Ivy. Either way, Harley Quinn is eventually defeated. Poison Ivy then expresses disgust towards Catwoman, who was spared from the harsh treatment at Arkham Asylum (thanks to Batman) that the other inmates had to undergo. Suddenly, Harley Quinn begins to go into shock, forcing either Catwoman or Cyborg to try to take care of her, while the other fights Poison Ivy, with either Cyborg or Catwoman emerging victorious. She is not seen again for the rest of the game.

She, along with the other members of the Society, disband once she realizes that Brainiac will destroy the Earth rather than let them conquer it.

Powers and Abilities[]

Ivy uses her plants to assist in her attacks with methods such as poison, tendrils, and even creatures made from her plants. Ivy's agility and strength have improved, allowing her to fight bare-handed with little difficulty.

Special Moves[]

  • Bed of Thorns: A ground-targeted move with 3 possible locations: close, mid or far from her. Ivy throws numerous seeds on the ground in front of her (depending on the location) and grows thorned vines in a medium-sized area. The opponent takes damage over time while they step in it. The meter burn version does increased damage. At the end of the duration the vines disappear.
  • Chompy & Bitey Bash: A close-range attack. Ivy crosses her arms in front of her chest, puts her hands on her shoulders and commands the plants on her back to attack the opponent, with their stems crossed too. The meter burn version makes Ivy kick the opponent and send them full screen.
  • Datura Hammer: A stance with 4 different mid-range attacks. It makes Ivy unable to walk, dash, jump or block while active. But it can be deactivated at will.
    • A straight attack that leaves the opponent standing.
    • An uppercut attack that gives a juggle opportunity if it connects.
    • A low attack that knocks down the opponent if it connects.
    • A meter burn version that does a barrage of hits and keep the opponent in place.
  • Kiss of Death: An inescapable grab. Ivy grabs the opponent's face with one hand as she's about to kiss them, but then slaps them in the face instead with the other hand. The meter burn version makes Ivy actually kiss the opponent and stun them for a short time. Both versions leave the opponent standing.
  • Rhytidome Skin: A self-targeted defensive buff. Ivy passes her hands down the sides of her torso and covers herself up from the neck and below with a bark-like layer. She takes less damage when hit and she takes no chip damage when blocking while active. At the end of the duration the bark-like layer disintegrates and her appearance returns to normal.
  • Vine Drill: A guided attack. Ivy summons a vine from the ground to hit the opponent from below, that emerges in the exact location where the opponent is at the end of the input. However, there is a brief moment where the opponent can jump or dash to avoid the hit. If it connects, this version knocks down the opponent. The meter burn version has Ivy summon a second and bigger vine right after the first one, which emerges slightly behind and gives a juggle opportunity if it connects.

Other Moves[]

  • Crawling Vines: Ivy summons a root of arc from the ground. Meter Burn Version summons 2 additional roots. (Ability) (replaces Vine Drill)
  • Deadly Thorns: Chompy and Bitey spits thorns at the opponent. Meter Burn Version they spit 2 more thorns. (Ability)
  • Pedals of Life: Ivy plants a patch of healing moss underneath her feet the heals her when she's standing on it. Meter Burn Version increases health. (Ability) (Replaces Bed of Thorns)
  • Thistle Coat: Ivy sprouts thorns on her entire body that damages the opponent when they attack her. (Ability) (Replaces Rhytidome Skin)
  • Flowing Earth: Ivy slides across the ground. Meter Burn Version keeps them airborne a bit longer. (Ability)
  • Grab: Poison Ivy grabs the opponent holding them when a giant plant appear spinning them around in the air, then Ivy throws the opponent to the other side while being in the air.

Character Power[]

  • Night Shade: Ivy summons from the ground a short dinosaur-like plant-creature, right behind where she is standing. It remains in the same spot for all of the duration and constantly spits ooze at the opponent as a projectile that travels in an arc trajectory, landing in the spot where they are at the moment of the shot, which means that there is a brief moment where it can be evaded. If Ivy receives damage Night Shade disappears early. If legendary gear is active, Night Shade will not disappear and will remain active for the entire match, even copying Poison Ivy’s movements.
    • Burrow: Ivy commands Night Shade to go under ground, charging at the opponent in a low-hitting attack and disappearing afterwards.

Super Move[]

  • FEED ME: A mid-range attack that hits mid. Ivy blows plant spores from her open hands into the opponent's face. Immediately she summons abundant plant life in the surrounding area, temporarily turning it into a jungle-like environment where a menacing shadow appears far behind the opponent, and from it, a vine suddenly goes off to grab them around the torso, revealing it to be the tongue of a monstrous Venus Flytrap with many eyes and even more teeth, which pulls the opponent backwards, captures them into its mouth and chews on them three times before Ivy commands another vine to grab them from one leg and pull them out of the monster's closed mouth. Ivy makes the vine throw the opponent all the way to the opposite site where she stands and crash them through a plant-wall before finally throwing them into the stage floor.

Ending[]

Injustice_2_-_Poison_Ivy_Ending

Injustice 2 - Poison Ivy Ending

Of all the men I've charmed, Brainiac was the most useful. With his help, I finally slaughtered the so-called heroes. Then I whispered in his ear, "Collect every last city on Earth and I'll give you a kiss." And he did. Every last city, I finally brought human civilization crashing to the ground. As for Brainiac, he got the kiss he deserved. But he was just a fling. After all, I was going to be busy leading the Green... I should've known there'd be some competition. Swamp Thing's sympathy for humans makes him weak. The plants know I'm their real guardian. And when the leaves settle, there will be no doubt--this world is mine.

Costumes[]

Poison Ivy - Seductress

Poison Ivy's costume is rooted in plants resembling a corset and divides at the chest. Her plants also cover most of her legs up to her thighs.

To the right is the base skin for Poison Ivy, Seductress. She is wearing her default gear. The remainder of her costumes can be found on her gallery page.

Trivia[]

  • Her cell in Arkham Asylum and in Joker's Asylum are seen and used as environmental hazard for the player to use. For gadget types, a player steps on a flower and squirts poison at the opponent. For power types, they throw one of the flowers at an opponent.
  • According to an intro with Scarecrow, the reason she left the Insurgency was due to her belief that the insurgents had Botanophobia (fear of plants). In the same interaction, it is revealed that Poison Ivy has Anthropophobia (fear of people).
  • Her voice actress Tasia Valenza previously voiced her in the Batman: Arkham series, and would go on to reprise her role in LEGO DC Super-Villains.
  • Poison Ivy is known for her bisexuality. It can be shown when she performs her Kiss of Death move (with a Meter Burn) on all characters. It is also exploited during several intro dialogues between her and Harley Quinn. However, her ending (where she charms Brainiac only to abandon him later) seems to indicate that she primarily goes after men in her endeavors (hence her saying in her ending "Of all the men I've charmed...", and Grid's remark to her "You inflame the passions of men..."), and several quotes to Swamp Thing ("We could have been lovers.", for example) suggest that she actually has strong feelings for him. Grid also states to Ivy that he would "welcome the experience" of romantic activity with her despite being all machine.
    • Ivy's ladder ending, however, doesn't make any sense at first, as Brainiac states to her right before the fight that romantic pleasures can't tempt him and that the regular version of her pheromones won't affect him. Her response to that is either "Guess you're not my type." or "That's debatable."
    • This becomes a point of controversy in June 2021 when Injustice 2 Mobile had a Pride Month event that involved fighting her and was widely reported on gaming news sites.
  • Both Catwoman and Harley Quinn nicknamed Ivy "Red" due to her hair. The three sometimes worked together, often enough to be dubbed the "Gotham City Sirens" when they were referred to as a group.
  • Ivy was extremely loyal to Harley initially but now considers her an enemy in Injustice 2.
  • One of her interactions to her mirror match counterpart mentions Clayface.
  • One of Poison Ivy's first-round win quotes is "Oops. Did I do that?". This is a reference to Family Matters character Steve Urkel (played by Jaleel White).
