Hippolyta is the mother of Wonder Woman and the queen of the Amazons of Themyscira Island.
Hippolyta is leader of the Amazons and mother to Wonder Woman. Her daughter was born from her liaison with the king of the gods, Zeus. Following her rape at the hands of Hercules, her people became very isolationist and came to the conclusion that most if not all men were monsters, resulting in the drafting of Aphrodite's Law, which states that no male can set foot on Themyscira. Ruling her people on Themyscira, she has also entered man's world to use the Wonder Woman alias. She has been a member of the Justice Society of America.
Hippolyta debuts in Chapter Four of the Year Two comic series. She visits the Justice League's Watchtower to take her comatose daughter back to Paradise Island, believing the gods can heal and awaken Diana. She accepts Superman's apology after the Man of Steel explains Diana's condition is from trying to save his life, and tells him that it is not his fault. Before their conversation can continue, the Watchtower's alarms go off, revealing Sinestro's arrival.
Hippolyta returns in Year Three.
